Message from Supervisor: Wage Hold Extended 30 Days

Your representatives and I are dedicated to ensuring that your voices are heard.  As we fight to recapture our market share our focus must be on the long term survival and growth of our Union.  Change will not happen overnight.  In order to succeed we must transform our thinking and act together.

As discussions continue with your delegate body, local union officers and Employer Associations I deem it necessary to extend the raise hold until September 30th as we strive to find solutions to help us get through this challenging work environment.

The FMI market study presented to our delegate body proved that our open shop competitors are breaking in to all our markets.  For us to survive we must bring new ideas to the table.  The declining numbers are alarming.  This situation calls for each and every one of us to act - to protect our future and the survival of our union.  Business as usual is not good enough anymore.

This may be the hardest fight we have ever had to face, but together we will assure our future.

  1. Where loosing market share, cutting our wages and benefits and the supervisor has the balls to say no business as usual and you have his top guy. The BOSS LAWRENCE D'ERRICO tabling motion, Silencing the members and this jerkoff Spencer wants us to support him. Why don't he put people in we can trust to stop robbing us, Lower the salaries and try to show some support by engaging the member or answering a question.

  2. Now 90 days?!?!? What contractors have been setting aside all this money in the event that we are reimbursed? Do not forget any and all work that is stimulus funded, they can not withhold your wage increase. I'm sick and tired of going to meetings and being shut down for speaking up! These so called elected officials are A$$HOLES! Each and every one of them within the NYCDCC!

  3. IT IS BUSINESS AS USUAL WHEN THESE THINGS ARE NEGOTIATED BEHIND CLOSED DOORS OF THE SAME CONTRACTORS ASSOCIATIONS WHICH HAVE BEEN PLAYING BALL W/FORDE&CO. THEY GET TO CONTINUE THIER OBLITERATION OF THE CONSTITUTION & CBA'S BECAUSE THE UBC & NYCDCC WANTS MORE WORK ANFD CONTRACTORS GET WHAT THEY WANT.

HAVE YOU HEARD THE NEW BUZZ WORDS FROM PUGGY AND THE REST OF THEM, QUALITY, CONTRACTORS WANT IT. FIRST OFF THEY SHOULDN'T WANT IT THEY DESERVE IT AND IF THE LEADERSHIP FEELS THEY DON'T GET IT
THEY BETTER STOP THE PRACTICE OF SIGNING IN MEN OVERNIGHT AS HAS BEEN THE CASE. ALL LOCAL/DISTRICT COUNCIL EMPLOYEES, YOUR TRUSTEES AND DELEGATES ARE GOOD FOR MAKING THAT HAPPEN. SO THE COMPANY NOW HAS MORE OF WHOM THEY WANT AS OPPOSSED TO MEN OFF THE LIST.
THAT IS WHY THERE IS A SEVEN DAY WORK TIME FRAME FOR EVALUATION BEFORE GETTING A CARD.

THE IMPOSED SUPERVISION HAS BEEN TO NO DEGREE TRANSPARENT AND CONTINUES TO HAVE CRIMINALS OR AT LEAST THOSE CLOSE TO OUSTED CRIMINAL LEADERSHIP IN THIER MIDST.
RETIRED OR QUIT OR RESIGNED MY ASS. IF IT WEREN'T THE STATUS QUO WE'D HAVE SEEN ONE OR TWO BUSTED ALREADY.

WITHOUT DRASTIC CHANGE WALSH WILL SEE 5000 MEN VOTING WHEN HE OPENS THAT UP. WILL HE CLAIM VICTIORY BECAUSE THE MEN DIDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIER UNION.

WHY VOTE WHEN THE CHALLENGER CAN'T BE RECOGNIZED, OR IN THIS CASE AS
THERE WILL BE NO INCUMBENT SUCH & A LOW TURNOUT I EXPECT WILL SEAL THE SAME FATE WE'VE BEEN HANDED IN THE PAST. REALLY ONLY ONE MAN WILL WIN, - VOTED IN BY THOSE MEN ALWAYS WORKING.

I BELIEVE A FEW WELL PLACED PHONE CALLS PRIOR TO JOB START IS ALL THATS NEEDED FOR THOSE REGULAR WORKING MEN AND THE NYCDCC LEADERSHIP WHO WANT THEM THERE SO THAT THEY WILL CAPITULATE TO WHATEVER BACK ROOM DEALS ARE STRUCK BETWEEN THE BM,STEW, COMPANT ETC. THE RIGHT PEOPLE MOSTLY THE SAME GUYS WILL ALWAYS EITHER BE HIRED BEFORE JOB START OR THAT THEY IN SHAPING ( WITH OR W/OUT ACTUALLY PHYSICALLY SHAPING )
    ARE GUARANTEED THE WORK.

  5. There are two sides to every coin! I support the hard working, qualified men that are on the owl. The other side is, contractors know it's a crap shoot that they could wind up with Mr. do-little! I say make a way to monitor the men who are not up to par, then contractors will feel no matter who shows up, will be productive and deserving of the good wages they recieve. The profit must be there for the contractor, or why would he risk his company. This adds to non union work! When we clean up this union from the top down use a broom, not a rake!

  6. How many of these crooked BA's who "RETIRED" now have their own Non-Union companies fighting against the Union work itself?
Heard that Sal Zarzana had his own company for years while he was a BA,then the pres. of 157 George DiLacio-who thought he was so high on the hog-has his own construction company taking work away from the union. All scum-out for themselves, just like when they were supposed "in" the union.
BA's are just wolves in sheep's clothing who couldn't give a fuck about 1 union person.

  7. PS- why do we need UNION REPS OR BUSINESS AGENTS? They don't do anything but try to steal our money anyway. Most are lucky if they even WORKED with tools for 10 years-some hardly ever worked with tools & some NEVER worked with tools. What are BA's good for? And why do we pay them?

  9. News Flash - BAs are appointed by a guy who is elected by the guys he appoints. What a great system McCarron has got here. When we're busy he has is hand picked BA's( who could get hired by any one any where) tell us we, the members, WE have to work harder, stay involved, give of our time & energy for free, then when times are hard, the hand picked mutts say we, the members , have to give more, work harder. The whole time, they receive full salaries, 2 pensions, a car & phone and we have no say in who they are. If you tell any one in any other business how our business works , they would laugh in your face. Our money pays the salary to people we have no control over. Sit down some day and do the math on how much monthly dues & check off equals for one person, theN times it times thousands. That’s what its all about boys. The upper level has that money comen in and they have complete control of it. Go ahead try and speak up about it. See what happens. We need to get a clue and get rid of the top ranked mutts & start over - but we all know that aint going to happen and you know what - THEY KNOW IT TOO!

I would ask that if you would like to leave a comment that you think of Local 157 Blogspot as your online meeting hall and that you wouldn’t say anything on this site that you wouldn’t, say at a union meeting. Constructive criticism is welcome, as we all benefit from such advice. Obnoxious comments are not welcome.
