I would ask that if you would like to leave a comment that you think of Local 157 Blogspot as your online meeting hall and that you wouldn’t say anything on this site that you wouldn’t, say at a union meeting. Constructive criticism is welcome, as we all benefit from such advice. Obnoxious comments are not welcome.
Let the bells ring. Though there is much good news, there are those for whom my departure is reason enough for celebration. But I hope that there are also those who reflect on what has been wrought, and on the simple question: what now?
To those who will continue to accept the imperative of working hard and meeting the challenges facing the Union with courage, energy and intellect, but most of all with honor, I will say well done.

ReplyDeleteNew York is merely a symptom of the new wave of corruption that has sprung up. President McCarron and the Executive Board have their hands full for sure. Experience teaches us that our organization often rewards the wrong traits as people rise in power, and greedy, power hungry little men find a way to the top. When they get there the true nature of the person becomes slowly apparent. Sometimes these men have true good intentions, but a small intellect and even smaller character, and time erodes the little good in their hearts until they are nothing more then paranoid little twitching bundles of me me me. One could give any number of examples, dear friend who posted last, but Ohio is indeed on that list!
ReplyDeleteBrothers and sisters, look around, there are no places where the reform we ushered in in 1995 has not worked when the local leadership was truely committed, but those few places that still exist and ooze with wrong doing, those islands of old time thinking, are insidious and lie on our Brotherhood like a cancer that has to be excised before it becomes impossible to cure. I applaud our leadership for their courage, and for persevering in their quest to make the Union what our founder, Peter J. Maguire, envisioned. Count me as a soldier in that fight!
