More Special Obamacare Treatment — But Not for You

Unions haven’t been able to get special Obamacare subsidies like Members of Congress and their staffs did, but they may not go away empty-handed.

The Obama Administration has indicated it will propose a new regulation that could give many unions a break from one of Obamacare’s new fees. This one hits health plans with a $63 per person charge next year.

But many “self-insured, self-administered” plans would be exempt from this fee in future years, thanks to the new suggested regulation—and that could apply to a lot of union plans.

Labor unions accused Obamacare of“shattering” hard-earned benefits and destroying the foundation of the middle class when they begged earlier this year for special treatment. Instead of advocating relief for all Americans, they merely advocated a carve-out for their members.

Meanwhile, people across the country are seeing their plans canceled or premiums increased. For people shopping in the Obamacare exchanges, premiums are going up in at least 42 states.

  1. I like your source The Heritage Foundation

On May 10, 2013, Jason Richwine, who co-authored the think tank's controversial report on the costs of amnesty, resigned his position following intensive media attention on his Harvard PhD thesis from 2009 and comments he made at 2008 American Enterprises Institute forum. In both Richwine argued that Hispanics and blacks are intellectually inferior to whites and have trouble assimilating because of a supposed genetic predisposition to lower IQ

The Affordable Care Act was implemented in Massachusetts by Republicans before President Obama took office. I wonder why a Black President has a hard time executing the same idea.

  2. How many of those same plans were canceled over the past ten years, on a yearly basis - that is the problem with those plans, is that they were canceled often on a yearly basis and not renewed once the individual got sick.

  3. It is nothing less then shameful that you post right wing garbage on a "Union " webpage. A good look at the board of directors tells the story better than the article.

  4. Thousands of carpenters in the union will get obamacare!! They have no choice! Unemployed carpenters that have under 300 hours have no medical insurance from the union, and these carpenters can not afford $400 per month for cobra insurance! The carpenters union has done nothing for these members!

  5. Dear John Musumeci, The Heritage Foundation is a right wing think tank that despises unions. Why are you posting anti-union propaganda on a blog for union workers??

I would ask that if you would like to leave a comment that you think of Local 157 Blogspot as your online meeting hall and that you wouldn’t say anything on this site that you wouldn’t, say at a union meeting. Constructive criticism is welcome, as we all benefit from such advice. Obnoxious comments are not welcome.
