Now this is very funny, the Council mailed this postcard to all stewards requiring they attend this "Steward Meeting." They say, "We are dedicated to keeping our shop stewards informed of what is going on at the District Council."
Since when is the Council dedicated to keeping anyone informed!

ReplyDeleteObviously the answer is since now. Futhermore if this meeting actually contains any real info for the stewards to pass along to the members it would be a step in the right direction. I would suggest you talk with your steward give him a question that you want answered and the day after the meeting find out what info he got from the meeting. If he tells you it was same old bullshit then you should spread the word it was crap , but if he actually comes back with real info then we have taken a baby step twords real disclosure of info in our union.
I saw the agenda for this meeting. It's nonsense, and another waste of our time. I for one have not yet received this postcard notification.

ReplyDeleteToday at the steward meeting at the DC,Paul Capurso stated one of the bargains on the table for the new contract,and it seemed as though it may have been his idea.
ReplyDeleteThe particular bargain is creating a new position called: wait for it wait for it wait! APPRENTICE HELPER.
He went on to define what the position would entail. He stated that since 1st year apprentices don't show up most of the time (according to him) to unload trucks and such,that we should make this position for people before they become 1st year apprentices.
They will ONLY UNLOAD TRUCKS AND MOVE MATERIAL. Correct me if I'm wrong but Isn't that what the fuck apprentices ,1st year apprentices in particular are supposed to do.
THIS IS A HORRIBLE IDEA! THE COMPANIES WILL ABUSE THIS! WHAT WE NEED TO DO IS MAKE A FORMAL APPRENTICE TO MECHANIC RATIO SO EVERY COMPANY IN THE CITY STOPS FILLING ALL THEIR REQUIRED "UNION" POSITIONS WITH FIRST YEAR APPRENTICES! THEY ALL HIRE APPRENTICES TO MEET THEIR CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS (U'S) OF THE 66/33 OR 50/50 IF YOU WILL!
THAT'S WHY HALF THESE APPRENTICES DON'T GIVE A SHIT,THEY CAN GET A JOB OFF THE LIST IN 1-3 WEEKS TOPS WE CAN PUT A STOP TO THAT BY FORMING A MECHANIC TO APPRENTICE RATIO and watch how serious these kids will take it then!
If this was mandatory for all stewards how come I never got this notification??
